Just another burger joint. I will admit that the homemade root beer and fry sauce is a nice touch but overall this place really didn't "wow" me at all. It's just another burger and fry place. My hubby had a burger with fries and I had a turkey sandwich. Everything tasted great but the prices were a little much. We would much rather go to Five Guys for a burger.

mediocre burgers. After eating at Hires I will never go back. My burger at Hires was grossly overcooked and I had to reassemble it because it was haphazardly put together. I never found a server or manager to fix it for me. I stepped in a puddle of soda right in front of the door way that no one had bothered to clean up. I have had much better experiences at Crown Burger.

Good Burgers. If you want a good burger Hires Big H has about the best burgers in the Salt Lake City area. They are 10 times better then Astro Burger or Crown Burger, or Carls Jr. Or Sonic. They aren't the best burgers i've ever had but it is hard to beet there burgers.

Needs Attention. I haven't been to Hires in 8 years because of my first experience. My wife and I gave it another try recently, only to be dissapointed. Don't get me wrong, Hires has a good burger. However, I simply could not get over the tiny uncomfortable tables, gray walls, filthy floor, lack of music, and terrible service. Why have a wait staff if a) they don't get drinks before your order, b) they take forever, c) you still have to wait at the register, d) none of the tables are pre-bussed?

The burgers are good; the buns are excellent. Our cheese fries were soggy and cooked in stale oil. I was never offered a refill on a rootbeer that was over $2, nor did our "waitress" return to do anything more than drop of the ticket.

The experience reminded me of eating in the mall, only with a carpeted floor. There is no conceiveable order to the table layout, and there's no sign advising first-timers whether to wait or just take a seat. The cashier is also the host, and just points in the general direction of an empty table. Menus are left at the tables regardless of having a waitress that could take them. Portions are small compared to those of competitors, and I felt I really didn't get the experience that the price warranted.

The atmosphere is non-existent. There are a few pictures of classic cars on the walls in arranged in no conceivable order. As I mentioned the walls are gray (and cinderblock). Ceiling tiles show signs of leakage. Tables are haphazardly positioned around the room.

Hires has great potential in its large menu and freah ingredients. However, the atmosphere and quality of service leave much to be desired.

Yummy Burgers. I'd have to say, I really like Big Hires H burgers, but the wait makes them a little more on the average side.

If you have time and are a little more patient, then it would be worth the wait. Delicious burgers, a little costly as well, be willing to shell a little extra dollars.

Prices went up, portions went down.. Hires used to be one of my favorite places for a burger, but lately they have been so bad that I can't remember why I liked them in the first place. The burgers are tasty but more often than not they are overcooked, the service is never better than ok (and often it is absolutely horrible), wait times for a hamburger and fries frequently exceed 25 minutes, and the price/portion ratio is lower than ever. You don't get nearly the amount of food you pay for; a full order of onion rings for example (I don't recall the price but I believe it exceeds $3) netted me 4 rings last time. An order of fries yields about 20 fries, half of those being burnt ends. Get the hot fudge brownie sundae if you need to lose a tooth; often the brownie is so hard that you need to cut it with a knife. You can have a pleasureable experience at Hires, but lately that seems to be ever more infrequent.

best fries in the state. it's about time; someone started selling old fashioned french fries again. all these other places sell the newer frozen version,blah,no flavor thank you hires for putting real fresh potato's back on a menu..

Great Food / but not the best prices. Hires has (so far) the best Shakes, my fav. is the raspberry. Their fries and Halibut sandwich are really good also. The only thing that I don't care for, is how long it takes to get your food(even just a shake, it usually takes 5-10 minutes). They are a little pricey for a burger place. But still good! :) Besides that, the only other thing I don't care for is trying to get into/ or out of the parking lot(it can be a bit of a pain).

classic drive-in food. The burgers, fries, and shakes are very good here -generous, fresh and filling. But you must try the grilled ham and cheese with a frosty mug of RB sitting in your car on a sunny winter day - nothing beats it. Be adventurous with the menu - you'll find good things whatever you choose.
