The faculty and volunteers, you can tell they really care, love the museum and want to educate everyone that walks in the doors in a fun and friendly way. Sometimes things can appear disorganized, smushed or a bit messy BUT I know this will not be the case when they are in their new place in 2011! I want my girls to volunteer here when they are old enough, we talk about this place at home almost every day. If you come, you will see us there! Date Night, Family Day Out or Birthday Party, @UNMH is the place to be! This is a museum that you will stay in for hours and feel like you got your moneys worth You can see more of what I thought about it at the Utah Sassy Scoops site.
A museum of epoch proportions..
The Scene
The second floor of the museum is divided between the biological and mineral sciences. The mineral display focuses on the various mining operations in Utah with maps, a Geiger counter and hundreds of rock specimens. The biology wing houses the museum's most impressive collection--dinosaur fossils taken from the region during the last century of paleontology.
More to Do
Downstairs, you'll find the museum gift shop, a faux dinosaur dig for the kiddies and the aforementioned rotating anthropology display. Don't miss the world's largest tropical turtle collection.
Lose yourself in the past. I've loved this museum since I was a little kid attending summertime day-camps here. It's a nice place to sit and feel removed from the bustling University crowd. If you get the chance, take advantage of the collection tours in the basement. There's tons of stuff on display, but what goes on behind the scenes is quite fascinating.
