Temple Square's assembly hall may be diminutive compared to the stately temple and tabernacle, but it is no less elegant.. The History
Completed in 1880, the hall was one of the first meeting houses built by early Mormon pioneers. Its granite walls are made of rock left over from construction of the temple. White spires and stained-glass windows ornament the exterior, and beautifully crafted woodwork finishes the interior. The Seagull Monument in front of the assembly hall memorializes an event in 1848 when seagulls saved the pioneers' crops by eating pestilent crickets. Also outside the hall is the Handcart Monument, a tribute to the pioneers who endured the challenges of crossing the plains.

The Scene
Like the tabernacle, the assembly hall boasts excellent acoustics and plays host to both concerts and lectures. The Temple Square Concert Series includes concerts Fridays, Saturdays, and selected weeknights. All performances are free and do not require tickets, but admission is limited to those 8 years and older. Pick up a schedule of performances in one of the visitor centers or call (801) 240-2534.
