Don't go here if you drive a Honda.. Plan on your Honda getting stolen if you go here. I know of 2 other people who have had theirs stolen from here within the last year. Mine was stolen and stripped a couple weeks ago. It's a painful, long process to go through with the cops and insurance agency.

Even with the cop on patrol you're not safe at night. I don't mind the theater as a movie theater, but I would not feel safe going there anymore. If they up the security I would go back for sure, it's got a great concession stand, good seating, and a clean building. It's just a bad part of town now I guess, too bad.

rude staff, crappy snack stand, plenty of movie selections. If you end up going to this movie theater, don't bother with the snack stand. I went for to a late afternoon mantinee and the staff couldn't have been ruder! There were two employees at the snack stand with no other customers. You think you'd be in and out quickly with two servers? Not so much. After I got their attention-hard to do since they were talking to each other- I asked for a small hot chocolate. It took ten minutes to make! During this time, the cashier is still talking to the other employee and moving in slow motion. "What's the hurry?" he asked the other employee. "I'm in a hurry," I replied. "My movie is running." Understand, this is at the very start when he takes my order. When he finally hands it to me, it's not even hot. Seriously, how hard is it to make a hot chocolate? Did I mention this isn't the first time their staff has been rude? Last time I had to wait while the employees finished flirting with each other before I could place my order. I'm voting with my feet and taking my business to the Gateway.

USED to be the best, now the sound quality is terrible.. When these theaters opened they had the HIGHEST quality sound in any theater and I would pay the large ticket prices with glee at getting to HEAR this amazing soundtrack.

NOT SO anymore. Cinnamark has bought this theater and the high quality wonderful sound is GONE...but they still charge you for it.

While watching Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skulls I could not hear what the characters were saying because of popcorn bag rattling 5 rows behind me.

It is a darn shame that popcorn eating will drown out the sound system at a 'supposedly' high end theater.

Let alone the constant chatter of under 3 year old kids that parents to cheap to get a baby sitter bring to such movies.

The Century 16 Theaters have gotten their last dime from me as I can wait for the movies to come to the dollar theater as they have the EXACT same sound quality as the Century now has.

You have no idea how sad this makes me.

I used to LOVE this place....now it is just mediocre at best.

What happened to the sound?!?. For years this has been my favorite theater in Salt Lake - great seating, real butter on the popcorn, easy parking, and friendly employees - the perfect theater!

Then, Carmike bought it and it's begun a steady decline. The popcorn is hit-or-miss, the employees are consistently rude, and the cleanliness is slipping. But the real problem is the sound! During each of the 6 or so movies I've gone to here in the past 6 months the story has been the same . . . the movie starts, and then the whispering in the crowd starts . . . "why is it so quiet?" "turn it up!" "can you hear that?"

Invariably someone gets up to complain, but nothing changes. You can hear every popcorn bag crinkling, every soda sipping, every foot tapping, and every nose sniffling within a 100 yards. What you can't hear is the dam* movie!!

I don't know anything about the technical aspects of theater sounds, but there's no doubt about it . . . this place "ain't what it used to be," and someone is reducing costs by reducing the quality of sounds. I've been told it has to do with the quality of projectors they're using, or that they don't subscribe to DTS sound or something . . . who knows. Bottom line, I just can't go here any more because it's just too maddening. Which only leaves me with going to Larry Millers places, which are pits in their own right . . . bring us Lowes theaters!

the nachos are a meal. I live in Layton and have been going to this theater for about seven years. I have always enjoyed the seating and the cleanness of the theater. The manager and staff do a great job! I managed over ten movie theaters in my heyday. This theater meets all my needs! It's worth the drive. Parking is fine, some people just need to realize that a little walk will not ruin the experience of the theater.

Nearly gourmet eats and comfy chairs at a movie theater? What a concept.. The Scene
Grossed out by the plastic coated nachos in your local movie theater?

Now film fans have an alternative with the Century 16 movie theaters at 33rd South and State Street. The theater promise more than just popcorn, soft drinks and candy, but "Cafe Cinema Gourmet Treats."

The Theater

Features include: 16 screens, stadium seating, Lucasfilm THX sound, Dolby, DTS, SDDS, love seats, rocking chairs, balcony seating, cupholders, armrests, video-game room and plenty of free parking in a well-lighted lot.

I love this theater!. Century 16 is a terrific theater - the seats are very comfortable, the stadium seating makes for a good view from every seat in the house, the quality of the sound and screen is superb. Sure, the parking is a little bit difficult at peak hours, but that goes for all popular establishments in the city! The neighborhood is fine. I went to the midnight showing nearly every Saturday for a year and never felt any concerns. Car break-ins happen everywhere, unfortunately! As a hotel desk clerk, I always recommend this theater to my guests, and they always return very pleased. I am really glad that there is a great theater close to downtown.

wonderful seating. They have great stadium seating, no matter where you sit in the theater, can don't have to worry about someone sitting in front of you and blocking your view.

My preferred theatre. Finding parking at peak times is a nightmare, but other than that I really like this theater. It's my first choice when deciding where to go.
