In Short
The crowd depends on the band--sometimes it's weekend warriors, other times fashion-forward scenesters. Considered by many to be the epicenter of grunge culture in the early '90s, the Crocodile hosts local music and traveling indie acts. The rear bar, with its driftwood tables and eclectic art displays, is a good place to people-watch--and makes a great refuge from the occasional unappealing opening act. The cafe menu is strong, particularly the breakfast options.

When did the Crocodile, once a Seattle landmark for local hipsters and indie rockers, go from peaceful hip scensters to down right scary. You can't even get into the crocodile now without getting past a VERY angry bulldog of a front door man who searches every inch of your purse - including inside pockets and gum wrappers and lipstick cases -- and he is SUPER rude about it -- its more of a purse check than Seatac or Safeco. When asked why the Croc has turned to such intense searches, the response was "so your f@#$ing a*s doesnt get stabbed in there." When did the Croc get so scary, and stabbings??! -- my advice, remember it how it used to be and STAY AWAY. So so sad, but true.
Pros: the memories
Cons: the intense search check and scary front door men
