The Job Corps Center in Manhattan, KS is sinking fast. It is understaffed and grass and alcohol wich are suppose to be under zero tolerance are being overlooked. Even students with "weapons", ie. knives, are not being sent home and weapons are suppose to be zero tolerance also. This center is being run by the students. The residential living director has no backbone and students get away with just about anything. The good students leave because of the things going on w/ the "bad" students. How about we get rid of the students who constantly break rules and maybe the "good" students will stay. Same with staff. Seems the good staff members leave and some of the ones that arent worth a darn are still here. We keep hearing that this place is going to close down. Why dont you start restaffing from the head downward. Reitan is a joke. How long has he been the director there and still has not brought his family? Doesnt look like he has much stock in the manhattan center. Only time he crosses the street is to come over during an assembly to tell us how much he "cares", but doesnt interact with students other than that. They plan several things for students during the months, but at least half of them get cancelled for some reason. Our washers and dryers havent worked for 2 months. 250 students and 2 washers dont cut it. This good idea should be run better. Half the rules they dont enforce. If they dont enforce them take them out of the handbook.
