Editorial Review for Peery's Egyptian Theater – by Citysearch Staff
The Scene
Originally built shortly after the discovery of King Tut's tomb in 1924, this replica of an Egyptian temple offers a spectacle whether the lights are on or off. As darkness falls on the audience, the cloud-covered ceiling gives way to a night sky complete with twinkling stars thanks to the theater's "atmospheric ceiling" which contains clusters of tiny recessed lights. The theatre also features box seats with wet bars, a customizable screen, and a stage built for dance or theater performances.
The Skinny
While others of its kind exist in metropolitan areas such as New York City, San Francisco, and Chicago, Peery's Egyptian is a lavish wonder tucked away a half-hour north of downtown Salt Lake City in Ogden. Completely refurbished in 1996 to meet fire and health codes, Peery's Egyptian is a must-see monument.
