The former Hotel Utah is now an elegant stop on Salt Lake's heritage trail..
Overview
The building originally was built as "The Hotel Utah," one the finest hotels west of the Mississippi. Between 1911 and 1987, numerous government officials, well-known entertainers, and foreign representatives spent a night within the walls of the white-glazed, terra-cotta building. In 1987, the hotel was closed and extensive renovations were made. The site now houses LDS Church offices, a cafe and restaurant, meeting areas, and several reception facilities.
The Experience
The interior is breathtaking. The main floor shows off the building's Old-World, gilded design (think "Titanic"). Feel free to walk around and peer into the ornate banquet rooms, or lounge around in the lobby and enjoy soft piano music. The building also houses a large movie theater. This theater was once the lone venue for the film "Legacy," the church's most successful documentary production. And don't miss the buffet-style Roof Restaurant.
