What a joke. They seem annoyed that you even came into the store. The older guy Ron made a offer on a gold coin that was 50% of two other coin shops here in Salt Lake. The younger guy who was more offensive of the two who smelled like he just finished smoking a joint acted like he knew what he was talking about but did not know shit. I would not waist my time going to this place of business. They were rude and dishonest. I took my coins back to Monarch Coins on 3rd east and 3900 south and was treated with respect and was paid cash for my dad's coins.STAY AWAY FROM ACE COINS!!
Ace Coins Sucks – So I went in to Ace Coins today after picking up some silver proof sets at a pawn shop at a ridiculously low price.
Old dude doesn't even really converse with me, instead he grabs the proof set in the US Mint packaging, arbitrarily punches some numbers on his calculator, and offers me $18.95 for it (not even the value of the silver alone, let alone the fact that these are uncirculated proof coins..)
At that point I handed him a Kansas State error quarter, he treats me like garbage and tells me it's not worth anything except maybe on eBay. I have seen this particular coin sell for $300 - so I knew it was worth something.
Anyway, while I was telling him what I knew about the quarter his associate comes out and tells me they don't deal with those. That's fine - if you don't deal in error coins I'm happy to go elsewhere. But I decided to ask him what they pay for silver and he asks me what I have, I tell him I have about 7.5 lbs of .999 silver, made up old coins, bars, industrial silver, pure silver buttons, etc.
He gets really abrasive and tells me he can't tell me what it's worth without seeing them. I know what it's worth, I just wanted to see what these guys would say. I ask him based on weight alone, what they pay for silver..
He goes off something about trying to sell me a t-shirt, trying to make some horrible comparison about two completely different scenarios. He then calls me a dumbass.. At no point did I ask them to make an offer, I was telling him what I had at home and asking what they paid based on spot price for junk .999 fine silver..
At this point the conversation escalated (I don't like being called a dumbass, I can guarantee I have more education than both of these maroons put together, also this guy had the gayest haircut I've ever seen) and I left.
I would NEVER go here again and I would definitely advise the same. There are good coin shops in Utah - where the employees treat you with respect. This is not one of those shops. I think they assumed I had no idea what I was talking about and tried to lowball me for the .91 troy oz I had on me at the time.
DO NOT GO TO ACE COINS!
If I could give zero stars I would. This place deserves to go out of business. =]
Ace is a good Place. – Small shop feel, with a nice large selection. Greeted kindly at the door, was ready to do business and seemed to be priced accurately from what i know about coins. Had what i was looking for and spent some time helping me with my questions. They paid a lot more then i got quoted at the pawn shops i had been to and made it worth my time stopping in. I would recommend stopping here. Pleasant customer experience.
One star too many! Dont bother waisting your time here – I've noticed precious metal pricing sky rocketing so I decided I better get in and purchase some while its still affordable. So I thought I would go around the valley checking prices at different coin shops, being my second visit to ace coin within two days the man in his early mid fortys noticed me outside his shop pretended not to see me because the day before I was in and all my questions I had for him he acted as if I were out of this world for asking turning his back on me numerous times the second day being in he totally ignored me. So I just looking around listening how he dealt with other customers I clearly heard one customer ask on price of ten morgan dollars bald employee responded 22.00 for buying ten or more. I asked the exact question as he responded 26.00 for ten or more and rushed in the back room . I have 25k to spend on precious metals I GUARANTEE I WILL NOT SPEND A RED CENT HERE I wouldn't want this old Prick to have to go out of way for me .... I am pretty sure any decent reviews this shop gets is one of two experiences 1.OLD PRICK DOESNT WORK THAT DAY .... OR 2. THE PRICK OR THE PRICKS FRIENDS ARE POSTING... Thanks for your time
Never Again and neither Should You! – Walking into this coin shop was my first time visiting such an establishment and most likely my last. The employee that buzzed me in was a very nice lady in her late forties. I handed her some silver dollars and some other items I wanted someone to look at and talk to me about. She stepped in back where a man in his early forties came out and proceeded to punch a couple of numbers into a register and barked something about how he could not do much with what I had and would give me about $200.00 for it. I began to ask him a question and he turned his back on me and walked into a back room. I stood there for another 5 minutes hoping to ask at least one question regarding an 1880 silver dollar I had as well as wanting to inquire about buying some gold bars. The lady came back out to buzz someone else into the shop and I asked her if she had any gold bars, not silver with gold plating, they had for sell? She went in back and I heard the same hair impaired gentleman (Sorry this is the only describing factor I have as he did not offer his name) tell her to show me a 1 gram bar. As you may or may not know this is no larger than half a stamp, width and size. With over $20,000.00 to spend on gold I politely asked the lady to buzz me out, and will never return to this establishment again. I run 17 small businesses and this is not how it is done. Respectfully, I recommend never giving this individual any of your business or money!
Friendly Staff & Great Prices – I am not a coin collector. I am just buying gold coins to hedge against inflation. I did some research online before going into this shop and I found the prices to be comparable so I decided to buy local. I also found the staff to be friendly, and knowledgeable.
