Editorial Review for Guitar Center – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Just as the electric guitar started gaining popularity in the '60s, so did this once-modest, now monumental music store chain, which has grown to become the country's largest retailer of musical instruments. The store is packed with merchandise hanging overhead, crowding the aisles and monopolizing the walls. Contrary to its name, it's not just about acoustic and electric guitars; it also serves the needs of keyboardists, drummers and horn players.

Insider Tips
Look GoodFeel free to plug in any of the store's guitars and take them for a test drive. Just don't play "Stairway" or you'll look like a newbie.

do yourself a favor and buy from eric at guitar czar or shawn at house of guitars ! guitar center is filled w/ 18-20 yr old jerks that have only been playing for 3yrs and believe thats enough experience to be rock n roll sensations ...i hate going in there yet i have to every once in a while ....i just don't buy, there i find what i'm looking for and buy somewhere else ...thanks for hiring a bunch of creeps .....w/ the exception of the door girl/guy everyone else is rude !

Are they STILL doing that? Young Hessian guitarists were plucking away at Stairway to Heaven and getting kicked out of music stores clear back when I was a kid in the late 70s.
Pros: variety of merchandise, parking
Cons: service is a bit slow at times
