Great. This church is amazing. I have just starting going here recently and they welcomed me with open arms. They accomidate any type of people, hard of hearing, people who can't speak english, new mothers, their "god's reign forest" is absolutely beautiful and they make church so fun for teenagers. Pastor Terry is an amazing pastor, so funny and explains the bible so we understand. They aren't a just come to church type of church, they have bible studies and wed. services. This church is amazing. God sent my husband and me to this church for a reason, and now i see why.

The truth is the truth. My wife basically dragged into Calvary Chapel kicking and screaming in January 2005, and its the best thing that's ever happened to me.

God's timing was perfect, God's message delivered by Terry was perfect, any other time and I would never have returned. I've been hungrier and hungrier for more ever since.

As for the "controversial" pastor, Terry, he's exactly what I need. God knew that when he got me to show up. I'm pretty much a blunt instrument as well, so I love to hear The message with all of the "scary" and "controversial" bits, as I am of the opinion that if you leave something out cause you're afraid of what I might think or how I might get offended you're hiding something from me.

Terry doesn't hold anything back. Good or bad, he lays it out there, and you, as a human being with a brain and a mind can make up your own mind about it.

That's what I feel God wanted us to do. If not, he could easily have created us without that ability.

I can see how Terry's bluntness could offend some, I sometimes cringe by what he says. But if you listen with an open mind and heart, he makes it clear that most of what he says that some consider "edgy" are his own opinions. I'm completely cool with that.

It's not about what Terry says and wants, its what God needs you to hear.

Either way, if you want to hear the whole thing, not just the "good" parts, you want more than the Cliff's Notes of the Word, this is the place for you.

It certainly is the place for my house.

A great church. I don't attend Calvary as my main church but both my husband and I LOVE this church for their concerts and seminars. We also listen to Pastor Terry Long on Homeward Bound radio...it's very insightful and funny!

I don't mind if a pastor criticizes a heretic for being a heretic either!...(I'm referring to Andyk's post)... only more reason for me to take an interest in this church!

Certainly not the best option in town. I am not sure if it can be called as a cult like one review said. I'd consider it as a non-denominational church. However, compared to other non-denominational churches that I have visited both in SLC and in the mid-west, i think this church is not strong in GOD's word. Their emphasis seems to be more on religion rather than faith, spirit led prayer and a clear, comprehensive understanding of the word. they even put down praying in tongues and getting any revelation from God during prayer.

It might not be as spiritually dead as Lutheran, Episcopal churches etc., but not far behind, as it is very lousy and boring... there are lots of church programs though...some bible study related, a weekly lunch for newcomers, some related to watching some Christian movie on a weeknight, etc., but I am mainly interested in the teaching and the praise/worship; pastor seems to be a nice guy, but I found him take a dig at baptists, lutherans and some charismatic preachers like joel osteen in some sermons. in one sermon, I found it amusing, because he was accusing different sets of lutherans and baptists for fighting over some hot button issues, but this pastor himself was going on and on with his comments... seemed like double standards to me...my parents were raised lutheran and i myself had gone to several baptist churches... they are not that bad as he portrayed them...

one word of caution though:- i read in a review and heard from some sources that they are linked to watchman fellowship from texas. and that scared the heck out of me, because I know that organization to be a very demeaning and notorious organization. get your facts before u decide to go there...

Focused on building the Kingdom of God. I have attended Calvary Chapel on a weekly basis for the past two years. I have found the Church to be filled with Gods grace with a focus on teaching Gods truth (the Bible).

The Church and Staff are focused on building Gods Kingdom and equipping people for service. Two examples of this are: 1) On numerous occasions, I have personally witnessed Calvary give a person a Bible who could not afford one, insure a hungry person has food to eat and clothing to wear. 2) This past summer Calvary sponsored Pastors, from several different Christian denominations, to go to Africa for a firsthand look at how their churches could become involved in sharing the gospel and feeding the poor throughout Africa.

May God continue to build His Kingdom in Salt Lake City and throughtout the world.

Critics Chapel of Salt Lake. Dear "Michaelandtruth",

Please stop quoting scriptures to distort my comments to suit your motives. I never attacked the "body of Christ". I only told the truth... 100% truth about a particular church (Calvary Chapel), which keeps criticizing good Christian people. My comments are only reactive (reaction to your pastors' comments and your guest speakers who are even more abrasive and caustic!). You guys are the modern day Pharisees, that's why you find something wrong in everyone. If your Pastor just wises up and preaches more about the Word than on leading Christian authors, pastors and evangelists, probably many people might come back (I'm talking about visitors). I know the members seem to love this Christian bashing because you believe that Calvary movement is the only way, and every other denomination/movement in Christianity is a heresy??!?!?!?!? But remember visitors like me don't like to see other brethren bashed! I am obviously going to stand up for them and warn other people about your church.

I am probably as well versed in the Bible as any one of you, but I don't keep "flaunting" my scriptural knowledge to prove a point... I don't have to use the scriptures in vain.

Terry Long has mentioned in these forums that it is a work of Satan to divide the body of Christ...I could not agree with him more... but Terry himself is the architect of Satan's work... criticizing so many people... okay he is not a Joel Osteen...he is just little Terry from SLC, so what...he should be proud of his work as a Pastor and see how he can be a better pastor, instead of being envious and jealous and criticizing other leading Christians, who bring more people to Christ than you can dream about...

Before you start accusing me of anything, take a good hard look at yourselves and your "criticizing pastor", and ask him to focus on the Word...

CHURCH HISTORY. This church was planted in 1992 from a bible study in my living room. we are a typical Calvary Chapel ministry being set out from Calvary Chapel Sacramento and prayed for in the sending by pastor Chuck smith of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. We are verse by verse teaching through the bible and contemporary praise music. We have a large Spanish ministry and Sunday school for all ages. You can watch the services on iTunes or at our web site- we also have a TV and Radio ministry that can also be views on ITUNES. Let us know if we can help in any way. GOD BLESS YOU .. 801-264-9999
