Horrible service from even Club Director.. I was a member at Xcel for two years. The staff was extremely rude. I canceled my membership, and thought things were fine. However, when I tried to use my last month(which I prepaid in advance), I was turned away at the door by being told that I was not allowed to enter because of "nonpayment". So, I quit going. Three weeks after I canceled my membership, I started reciving phone calls that I owed the gym money because of unpaid dues(they were attempting to charge me for months after I canceled my membership). Then came letters from a collection agency every month attempting to collect monthly dues after the membership was canceled, and every month the bill kept getting higher. I have finally had to hire an attroney to get the matter resolved, and Xcel is still refusing to do anything.

xcel is a great fitness center. i have been with xcel for two years and i do not have one thing to complain about. the staff is VERY friendly and they are always willing to help. the gym is very clean and always looks nice. the classes are amazing and have put me in the best shape of my life.

i would never want to use another fitness center. xcel has an awesome mission statement 'putting forth the necessary effort to deliever the xcel experience to every member everyday' and they do just that.

all the members are friendly and i always meet new people there. this is a high end gym and it shows. you get what you pay for. i love this gym and i will never go anywhere else after being with this club. it is a great gym and i would recommend it to anyone who likes positive environments and an awesome place to work out.

most unprofessional staff ever. so i signed up with xcel so i could work out with my friend, besides the annoying trainers and their crappy staff, the thing that did it for me was when i i tried to cancel my membership; my husband and i are moving back east and i needed to cancel my membership, so i tried doing it over the phone which didn't work because i "have to sign some papers"...so of course i need to come in to do it and like many i am a busy person so the one day i have time to go in to talk to an "specialist" is memorial day, so i called to make sure they'd be in because i know it's a holiday....anyway i get there and when i tell the check in girl what i need she comes back and tells me that they CAN'T CANCEL memberships on a holiday!!! but they can do everything else right? if i wanted to open a membership on memorial day they would have done it but watch out for their canceling memberships on a holiday policy...it is the biggest load of crap ever!!!!! so now i have to make time (take time off from work) to talk to some loser about why i need to cancel my membership and hopefully it can get done painlessly...word of advise?

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM UNLESS YOU ENJOY BEING TREATED LIKE GARBAGE.

Crappy Staff. I have been with Xcel since i was 16 and i joined at the Bountiful location. I am now going to the Holiday location, And i can honestly say that the staff is so bad it makes me sick. There are about three people that work at that gym that are nice and i would say they all work at the front desk. The trainers are all pricks that look at you like you don't belong near them. And most of the time the tanning salon people are talking with the other employees at the front desk and they treat you like crap that you interrupted their conversation so you can get scanned in. I honestly can not remember the last time i was greeted by one of the trainers( I know their job is SUPER tough, and it's so hard to say hello). I don't know why i still go to this gym but after reading other reviews and writing this i can say I'm changing gyms. Come on people there other two locations got bought out, how long before xcel is out of business. I don't think long. I think they forget that they are in the customer service business, not the other way around.

Pretty upscale. Okay, so when I first walked into this place and saw the different levels with all the equipment I was blown away. Lots of weights, machines, treadmills, ellipticals, stairmasters, bikes, oh, and good-looking people. I don't think I've ever seen so many beautiful people walking around in one place. I realized I'd have to wear my make-up to this place and maybe buy some cute workout clothes (which is why I put the hotties as a con). Plus, I've seen many Salt Lake celebs working out there, such as tv reporters, UT Jazz players, ReAL Salt Lake players, and local actors. The aerobics classes are awesome, taught by some of the cutest chicks ever who help keep me motivated. Anyways, I'm pretty happy with my membership that I've had for a little over a year now.

Worst Gym in the Valley. I had high hopes when I joined this gym. After six months I have come to HATE it. The staff is rude and completely unhelpful, and the facilities are substandard. I went to spinning classes four days a week but the equipment is so old and neglected that I have had two sets of clips ruined and a pair of cycling shoes. Out of the 20 bikes, there are only three or four that are usable and members fight over them before each class. The instructors are often late and don't run for the full time. A few months ago they moved the room and the new room is unbearable. It has west facing windows that let so much sun light in during evening classes that the room is so HOT and bright that it makes the workout horrible.

As for the gym itself, the equipment isn't maintained and is dirty.

The personal trainers are rude to others that are trying to work out and I have even been asked to get off equipment so their clients can use it. When I looked into getting one of the trainers, I found the experience unpleasant and I was given a lot of incorrect information. The sessions are over priced for what you get and the trainers don't seem very knowledgable.

Anyone interested in Xcel should really spend some time in the gym before they sign-up. It looks good from the outside but looks are deceiving. I have joined a new gym and have lost 25 pounds in the three months since while attending the same classes I did at Xcel.

By the way, one of the trainers told me that Xcel employees have posted positive reviews for the gym on Citysearch so keep that in mind when reading these review.

9 years and counting. I love this gym and it is getting a facelift! I joined when I turned 16 and have been a member ever since. I never felt unimportant because I wasnt with a trainer like some other people. I pay $33.90 a month and have since day one, and personally I would pay more.

Honesty would be the best policy, right?. This is a comment of another citysearch members review of Xcel Fitness, at both the Holladay and West Jordan locations. I would never want to mention names here (posted by rickut) because that would be both innapropriate and could potentially cause a serious legal issue. But this person went on about how horrible their experience was at Xcel, and actually thought they were justified enough to name each person that caused them so much pain and suffering. What a joke! None of the fitness professionals at Xcel Fitness would ever tell any member that they would "reassign" them to another trainer if they weren't going to purchase their services. Each and every Fitness Professional I have ever come across have been more than willing to meet with me to take body composition measurements, go over training techniques, nutrition, cardio, and anything else. I have been a member at this gym for six months and I went through the results orientation process, and it is like no other initial gym membership orientation you will find in the industry. A certified Fitness Professional spends an entire two hours with you (at no charge) to go over your exercise, nutrition and wellness goals, and frankly anything else you ask of them. The first hour is an depth look at your nutrition, where they set you up on the bodybugg program (www.bodybugg com). This is a truly amazing program that I would recommend to anyone looking to lose some weight or just to better analyze your nutrition in vs. calories out. The second hour is the free hour of personal training where a trainer actually takes your through a full hour of exercises that are built around how your body moves and any type of muscular imbalances are also addressed in this complimentery hour as well!! The review by rickut (oops, there went their name again) posted 4/15 & 6/7 (same review posted twice?) should be deleted! Thank you Xcel Fitness Staff for all of your hard work and dedication!

Courteous Staff? That's a laugh.. I can't stand this gym. Can't wait for my contract to end. It's cramped, and unless you're with a trainer, expect to feel like you're second class. I always feel like I'm competing with them for either space or equipment. If you tag a peice of equipment before a trainer does, you'll get a dirty look. They're not friendly at all! Don't use the tanning salon either, it's a rip off.

Xcel Gym Guarantee = Gimmick. I joined xcel gym to be able to workout with a friend of mine and for my surprise I was jerked around just because I didn?t want to buy training sessions.

First Ben(holladay trainer) canceled my orientation meeting 4 times then he told me if I am not buying training sessions he would assign me to see another person.

Finally had my orientation with Michael(west jordan trainer) and we scheduled the final orientation for another day and guess what? Michael canceled me 3 hours before it! (Michael had to go help his girfriend to get a new dress! Can you believe it?) Michael set me up to see Cathy(west jordan trainer) on the exactly last day of the 30day money back guaranteed. What a coincidence!

I called Chris(west jordan sales manager) and told him the situation and he told me he would wait and see me right after my appointment with Cathy and guess what? Chris was gone!!! He didn?t wait for me and left the gym. Conclusion: I can not cancel my membership and have my money back anymore! Isn?t that a perfect set up?
