Editorial Review for Primo – by Lisa Johnson

The Scene
Located in yet another strip mall on 70th South, Primo has fresh flower arrangements, fine table linens, and subtle, mostly impressionistic paintings on the walls. Pleasant classical music plays just loud enough to soften and conceal the voices of other diners in the intimate room. Servers are European gentlemen who, for the majority of their lives, have obviously been working with fine foods and discerning patrons.

The Food
Their portions are generous, their textures delightfully discernible. The menu is not overstated, but includes pasta, veal, chicken, beef, and seafood, all with carefully prepared classic sauces. The Marsala-wine sauce is smooth and flavorful served over the veal. The garlic mushroom sauce that accompanies the chicken stuffed with spinach and pine nuts is exceptional as well. Diners should feel free to indulge in dessert at the end, such as the light and creamy zabaglione with strawberries. Primo has a full state liquor license and a wine list that grows continuously.

Primo is premier in nothing but poor customer service. I was given a gift certificate to this restaurant, but failed to use it before it expired. I called ahead and asked if they would accept it, and was told it would be no problem. After the over-priced and unimpressively bland meal was served my waiter informed me, without apology, that he could not accept more than 50 percent of the gift certificate. I will not go back to Primo, and I certainly will reccomend it to no one!

Pros: Quiet atmospher

Cons: Service, prices, so dark you couldn't see your food.

After reading the Tribunes report on this place i felt like it was worth a try. Big disappointment. Almost too dark to read menu, service was terrible, could not get service person to refill drinks. ordered 3 coffees after dinner and the server only filled 2 (got distracted) and had to be reminded about coffee. Food was overpriced for what you got. Ice tea served in beer glass, did not insure customers needs were met. CAN NOT RECOMMEND.

Pros: no dishes noise, good bread

Cons: ice tea in beer glass, poor service
