Editorial Review for Carl's Cafe – by Peter Behle

The Scene
It's a tiny strip-mall coffee shop--open only for breakfast and lunch. On the weekend, you'll usually have to wait outside for a few minutes. Be sure to check out the specials listed on the wall by the kitchen.

The Food
These are whoppin'-huge omelets. Some go for the basic omelet, which includes any two fillings--when in doubt choose the thick-sliced bacon and fresh, sliced mushrooms. Special omelets are also offered--recent choices included feta, artichoke and sun-dried tomatoes; and jalapeno, tomato, cheddar and sour cream. French toast is a bargain. Lunch choices head into the burger and sandwich area. Try a Westerner (mushroom-cheese burger), an Easterner (pastrami, cheese and tomato sandwich topped with thousand-island dressing), a Northerner (roast beef and Swiss, grilled on honey wheat bread) or a Southerner (turkey, Swiss, bacon and avocado).

it's teeny tiny & doesn't accept credit cards. the food it good but the portions are disappointing. one would expect the gut buster to bust one's gut but it falls far short of that. the tables are crammed together and if there are toddlers or younger kids in the place, expect to have them underfoot or step on them.

Pros: tasty food

Cons: crowded, no credit cards, kids underfoot

Mmmhhh... yum! This little "mom-and-pop" diner has great food at great prices, and everything is flavorful as well as abundant! I couldn't believe how much food our orders came with for the price on the bill. It is a little small, so you won't find this to be a group dining area, but really really good. Try it and you won't be disappointed.

Pros: Delicious food, cheap, lots of food

Cons: small, may need to wait for table
