Will never spend another $0.01 at Plaza Cycle
by robboat
I was a loyal Plaza Cycle customer for over 10 years. In the past, I bought a new Yamaha Royal Star, two Sea Doos, a trailer and subsequently had them rebuild the crashed cruiser (it wasn't my fault...) but after what I just went through, I will never spend another penny with them. Something has gone very wrong with their customer service.
I took my bike in for a minor repair i.e. extract a broken bolt that ties the shifter linkage to the transmission and replace the broken bolt. Counter guy estimated 2-3 hours. Seemed a bit much for dropping an exhaust pipe and extracting a bolt but they've always done a good job before so I gave them the go ahead. They said they would "get right on it." That was on Saturday Aug 15. I called to check the following Tuesday and they told me they had a tech scheduled to work on it on September 2nd "but we'll probably get to it sooner." September??? I should have went and picked it up but was getting on a plane the next day and figured I might as well leave it there in case they "[got] to it sooner." Got back from my trip and called them again on Saturday Aug 22. They said they hadn't worked on it yet but would be working on it the first part of the week of August 24. Called on again on Aug 26 and was told that it wasn't scheduled to be worked on until Sept 2. Sigh.
Decided to call the GM to see if anything could be done as I have vacation planned to start the week they were planning on working on my bike. Why would I have left it with them knowing they weren't even going to work on it until the week I was going on vacation??? I hoped my "status" as a valued customer would buy me something. Greg, the GM, seemed very understanding and said he would get involved.
I talked with Greg again on Thursday, Aug 24 when he said they would be looking at it on Friday, Aug 25. On Friday, he called me and said they "had to order the parts." I asked him what he meant - that it was only a broken bolt. He said he would check (I could hear him typing away...). When he came back to the phone, he said he had looked up the order and it was indeed just a bolt and that they must not have had it in stock nor was it in stock anywhere in the area because their system shows them that. In any case, they had ordered the bolt and it would be in on Monday.
On Monday, Sept 1, they called and said my bike was ready. I went to pick it up and got a bill for $413.59 ($37.50 was for an oil change). They had replaced every part in and around the broken bolt plus charged me $50 overnight fee & $20 for shipping and handling. So, $225 in labor, $148.56 in parts, and $70 in freight. The cost for the broken bolt? $0.60!!! The story was they couldn't extract the broken bolt because "it was too screwed up". I asked to see my parts but they didn't have them - "we chucked 'em". Say huh? They just did the repair that day!! No, they said, we did the repair on Friday but had to wait for the bolt. Again, say huh??? Earlier in the conversation, they told me that all the parts had to be ordered. How could they have done the repair on Friday if they didn't have the parts??? When I pointed out the error in their logic and the inconsistencies in their timeline, the GM said "I thought you'd be thrilled that we got this in time for your vacation." Yeah - I'm just thrilled.
So, mysteriously missing parts, overnight fees for a bike they'd had for weeks, a job they said they would get right on, and a totally inconsistent story. Something seems pretty fishy here and I'm out several hundred dollars for a bolt extraction... Like I said, I'll never spend another penny at Plaza Cycle - something has gone seriously wrong with these guys...
Keep your eyes out for a new website, www_dot_plazacyclesux_dot_com - I've just registered the domain and will knock out a website shortly. What a crock...
- Cons: Very poor customer service...

I put 1,000.00 down at honda world in south jordan and changed my mind, they gave me my 1,000.00 back no problem. I put a 100.00 down at plaza cycle in slc and changed my mind and they would not give me my 100.00 back. The salesman even said they would give me my money back. I wouldn't go to plaza cycle in slc ever again. My advice go to some other dealership.
- Pros: They were nice at first
- Cons: Took my money
Avoid this place like your life depends on it.

Avoid this place like your life depended on it, it just might.
The absolute worst service! I was treated rudely and extorted, and then nearly lost my R6 to something that I perceive as sabotage. You decide.
The tech removed my bikes oil level sensor bolts because of a dispute over an additional $75 dollar hourly fee. I paid $800 dollars for a tune-up, tires and a diagnosis on the oil level light.
When I did not want to pay them $75 more to reassemble the 2 lower fairing bolts when the sensor turned up back-ordered, they sent me out of the shop telling me that my bike may "bloow up" if I ride it out of there.
I knew that the oil pump was working and that the oil level was fine, but when I got home found that the tech had removed the bolts holding the sensor in.
I could have died if I would have taken the bike on the highway and lost the sensor and had all the oil get on my back tire.
These guys extorted and then nearly destroyed my bike, and me.
The worst of the worst! AVOID!!!!
- Pros: One nice guy, Boyd
- Cons: Extortionists and saboteurs
