Editorial Review for Valley Fair Mall – by Michelle Merrill
The Scene
A British author once commented that America is the most convenient place to live on earth. You bet your star spangled banner it is. When you think of interstate freeways, fast food, and movie megaplexes, don't tears come to your eyes? Well, wave the flag and God bless America because you can find all of these at one very handy location--Valley Fair Mall. The next time you're driving your big American-made car along I-215, take the 35th South Exit and you'll be right at the mall. When you enter, take a moment of silence to remember the brave men and women who sacrificed themselves to make all of this possible.

I am SO excited about Valley Fair Mall's redevelopment. They are bringing in a Costco this Christmas, adding two towers (with retail, apartments/condos and hotel) in the parking lot and so many of the hottest national stores! Valley Fair Mall has a GREAT food court with so many choices like Chick-fil-A (YUMMY!), Subway, Hot Dog on a Stick, a delicious Greek place and so much more! They even have a movie theater right there in the food court. There is always some giveaway at Valley Fair Mall (where you spend so much and get something free). They are THE PLACE for new movie premiere ticket giveaways and have a lot of fun events with radio stations and more. This is a mall with A LOT of potential. Watch out Salt Lake...Valley Fair Mall is going to be the next big thing! I like their website too (ShopValleyFairMall). And check out the Teddy Bear Stuff 'n Factory Store...you can make your OWN stuffed animal...WAY FUN!
Pros: Parking, movie theaters, food court
Cons: older mall

Ahhh, Valley Fair Mall. I have many a fond memory of this mall. One of the fondest memories is of a taboo store called "The Keyhole." I'm sure there are those who remember it. In The Keyhole you could find all manner of naughtiness including (but not limited to): naked lady keychains, fake poop, KISS posters, plastic butts, and my all time favorite: fake cigarettes. I remember the look on my hardcore Mormon father's face when he picked me up from the mall, smoke billowing from my eight-year-old mouth like I were a washed up Vegas stripper. He was not pleased. No, a pack of fake cigarettes did not last long in my clutches, but the memories still live on! Alas, memories are all I have now of the grand days of Valley Fair Mall. Recently, I stopped by on my way to the airport, it had been at least a decade since the last time I had been to the Valley Fair Mall, and time has done her handiwork. Where Valley Fair once boasted a parking lot packed with cars and littered with teenagers, she now displays an almost empty parking lot scattered with litter. (I swear to God I even saw a tumbleweed blow by!) Valley Fair's retail lineup is weak and leaves much to be desired: It boasts Mervyn's, JC Penney, and ZCMI*. Go ahead and add SNOOZE! to that lineup as well. The once-trendy boutiques have now been replaced by smaller, plastic-dominated dollar stores and cheap import marketplaces. *Sigh* One thing that Valley Fair Mall still has (but in smaller numbers)kids sluffing school. I'll bet those little sluffers are looking for chicks to make out with. At least that's what I'm hoping for, a little bit of history left in that old relic of a mall. *Is that accurate? Does ZCMI still exist? I thought it had been taken over by some evil department store chain or another.
Pros: Plenty of Parking, great deals on paper plates and cheap clubbing clo
Cons: tumbleweeds, WVC gangstas, no Keyhole
