Editorial Review for Coachman's Dinner & Pancake House – by Peter Behle
In Short
Breakfast is a specialty, but this huge coffee shop and diner is known for huge lunch and dinner meals. Try one of the mega-meals--chicken-fried steak, fried chicken, roast beef or roast turkey--and, enjoy soup or tomato juice, salad, potato, vegetable, a beverage and ice cream. Kids love the spaghetti, served with Caesar salad, garlic bread and ice cream. The ham and cheese omelet is terrific, while the pork chops and eggs satisfies big appetites.

After hearing some good things, I went there for breakfast with a friend. She had the swedish pancakes, and I had the french toast. First off, the service was awful. The waitress was slow and cranky. As was the woman at the front desk. And who in the year 2008 still doesn't accept debit cards? Instead, you have to use the ATM which charges an additional fee. Next, the food was pretty much mediocre. The french toast wasn't any better than what I could make at home. And I have no idea how they think those things were swedish pancakes. Basically, they were super thick, super eggy, super dark pink crepes with something that was definitely not lingonberries. They made my friend feel sick and neither of us even finished our food. Definitely, if you're going for breakfast, try someplace else. I'd rather have Village Inn than this trash any day of the week.
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Service is awful, food is bad, prices aren't great.

The Coachman's has been one of our frequent breakfast, lunch and dinner stops for many years. WHY? Simply because it's very good food with large portions at a great price! Contrary to what some others have posted here, I've always found their service to be excellent as well. The comment(s) here about this place giving you the feel of dining with the mob are interesting, however the owner was NOT incarcerated! John and his wife are the owners, and one of their sons (who was working there) was found to have been selling contraband on the side out of the restaurant. This restaurant does, however, offer a distinct unique atmosphere along with the outstanding food and service. Incidently, one of my favorites is their marinated pork which offers a very delicious power surge of flavor! TRY IT! YOU'LL LIKE IT!!
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
