Editorial Review for Anthony's Antiques and Fine Arts – by Michelle Merrill
The Scene
Anyone who lives in a basement apartment should probably look elsewhere for household furnishings. Perhaps a garage sale. The large-scale pieces at Anthony's Antiques belong in a palatial country estate. And so do the customers who can afford to purchase anything from this store. Think we're exaggerating? If you think nothing of paying $97,000 for a 19th-century Renaissance-style dining room set, then we want to come live at your country estate. Forever.
The Goods
You'll find lots of 18th-century French armoires here, along with gorgeous statues, fountains, fireplace mantels, armor, chandeliers, clocks, tapestries, tables, chairs and bedroom furniture. The artwork is especially fabulous. It's the real deal--not the poorly executed landscapes seen in typical antique stores.

It is always a delight to go in Anthony's. It not only has amazing furniture and art but unique objects as well. I have found the staff to be both knowledgeable and willing to explain details about anything and everything. I have never felt the "stuffiness" that was mentioned in a previous review--nor have I ever felt pressured to buy anything. Perhaps some shoppers want to be warmly greeted and engaged in bubbly conversation. Anthony is a very pleasant person who as a vast knowledge of the objects in the store but he is not an outgoing, loquacious individual. I personally prefer his style, where I can browse at my leisure but ask for help or direction whenever I want or need it. I enjoy visiting the store--in much the way I love to go to a favorite museum, walking from room to room and floor to floor. It is even more of a delight since objects are available for purchase as well as mere enjoyment.
Pros: Quality and value / Convenient Parking

I purchased several antiques from Tony when he just had a small shop on Broadway...I was young and learning but he was patient and respectful. I have lived and shopped in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New Orleans. Tony stands shoulder to shoulder with the best buyers in all those cities! What a wonderful thing to have him living here in SLC and I am glad I am back to take advantage of his great eye and expertise!
Pros: Ambience, knowledgeable, trustworthy
Cons: Busy with large clientele but worth the wait!
