Bar X goes to tavern heaven. The Bar-X in Salt Lake City clesed Friday the 9th of July 2010 forever. So long to the giant beers, mega size women, and the tasty peanuts. Yes the bar X went to tavern heaven to join with Radio City Lounge, The Shamrock, The Deseret Lounge, and Andy's Place. The transients will be getting thursty. Grizzly Dan
COLDEST BEER IN TOWN.
What a place .. if you like down to earth people.
I lived is Salt Lake for three years in my late 20's and this was my spot. A great mixture of people, from college to professional to blue collar to borderline bums.
The beer is cheap and it's cold. The pool talent is very good and people are very friendly.
Get your microbrew somewhere else. This dive caters to a rough mix of students, pool sharks and everyday joes..
The Scene
It's the kind of bar you didn't think existed anymore. With rough wood walls, tile floors and a line of filth running beneath the stools from one end of the bar to the other, it's a no-nonsense, old-school dive. Peanut shells litter the floor, and working joes and a few college kids drink the only beverage available--beer. Don't plan on getting a meal unless you consider salted munchies (nuts, chips and pretzels) one of the four basic food groups. Open since 1933, this bar's longevity is a testament to its enduring, elusive appeal.
What to Do
Entertainment options include a pool table, two televisions and jukebox. Just don't get any bright ideas about dancing. If you're in need of some physical activity, practice your putt with a little help from the golf machine.
Oh, for the good ol' days. Back in my college days at the U, this was a hidden hot spot. We'd go hang out on Friday afternoons, drinking too many tankards and playing pool with the regulars. Maybe even have a chili dog. It kind of turned into a frat hangout in the '90s -- and now is just kind of a mish-mash of all kinds of people. Still cold beer and cheap, though.
