Best Japanese Food in the City. Koyo is without equal in the Salt Lake City area if you are looking for reasonably priced and extremely delectable japanese dishes.

Do yourself a favor and order the Beef Sukiyaki Meal - a traditional japanese stew along with salad and vegetable tempura (all of which are very tasty).

Best food in town. I have been eating here for about 20 years at least once a week and the food is always delicious!

This is by far my favorite restaurant.

Very Delicious with a great atmosphere. The restaurant has very well manicured landscaping on the outside and a very nice and clean appearance on the inside. The steak, tempura shrimp and sushi was delicious. The only complaint that I had was that the entree's were approximately $20/person. This was a little higher than it showed on the citysearch price. Other than that, the experience was great and I would definitely recommend it.

Best sushi around. We love this place. Expect to find consistent prompt and friendly service. They are the best in town and the least expensive. The sushi is my favorite. They have great kids meals as well. My 2 year old loves their food. It is so refreshing to find great sushi at an affordable price.

Simply the best Asian and incredible value. It's rare to find a place that serves excellent food and is a real bargain. I can't get enough of the sukiyaki, it's out of this world. The prices are great for what you get, especially lunch. The service is always good, and ambience is great. Truly one of the best in SLC. Parking is easy to get and it's in the suburbs.

Thanks Koyo. I have known the owners for many years, the original owners and the boys now who run/own the restaurant...I love this place, but it's the food that does stand out...

The tempura is very light (only place I will go except for my mom's); the tonkatsu is the way it should be; the sukiyaki will warm you up on a cold UTAH night; the sashimi is sliced the way it's suppose to be; the gohan is fantastic...

Best Japanese in town.. My dad grew up here and he used to go to Mikado since he was a kid. When he comes back to town I now take him to Koyo. He prefers the traditional food prep we grew up on. Koyo is the best traditional, non-sushi restaurant in town. Nobody is even close, Kyoto is a distant second. I say non sushi, b/c I've given up on eating good stuff around here, and havn't tried it. A measure of a good Japn restaurant is the tempura. If they have light, non battery tempura that isn't soaked in oil you know your at the right place. Its leagues better than more expensive, high profile wanna be sushi bars downtown. The kushiyaki (toriyaki) is done right, so is the salt grilled salmon. Anyone can make modern fusion versions of an ethnic food. If you want something close to what you'd find visiting in Japan to to Koyo.

YummyYummy* Revised. I have been going to Koyo since it opened 20+ years ago. It has the freshest food, best quality Japanes food I have ever had. Its hard to pick my favorite, but the tempura and steak terriyaki is the best. The sushi is very well presented. The lunches and dinner are busy so allow enough time that you can enjoy your experience. If you are in the mood to just relax, have some great food in a beautiful atmoshere then Koyo is the place to go. It is perfect anytime, whether you are just coming down from Alta, on your way to a concert or bringing your prom date for that special evening, I would highly suggest Koyo. Besidse, where else can you try red been or sake ice cream?

Traditional food in relaxing atmosphere. Having lived in Japan for a while it's been my quest to find traditional, quality Japanese food wherever I have lived in the US. Koyo is one of those restaurants. As others have commented, the parking is a bit limited and the service is sometimes slower than expected. The ambience is "average" when compared to other authentic restaurants, but quiet and relaxing. However, quite frankly, the highest point for me is the authenticity and quality of the food. The full range of traditional Japanese dishes are available, from Udon to Sukiyaki to Katsu (yes, there's much more delicious Japanese food available than Sushi!), and that is why I will keep returning to Koyo.
