The worst food I have had in a LONG time!!!. The atmosphere at this diner is just as charming as everyone says, However the food is so aweful it doesn't taste nearly as good as the plates they serve it on! (YUCK) I went with a group of 6 adults and we all ordered different things and all of us were equally revolted with our meals. First of all they cover all of their tasteless overcooked food with the most nasty sauses, they were so bad we couldn't even begin to choke them down. They bring these hard, dry, heavy rolls to your table that would be more suitable as a door stop than something you might actualy eat. They serve this horrible rasberry cream salid dressing that does not even remotely taste like raspberry. The pot-roast had some weird flavored sause on it that just made it compleatly inedible. The raspberry chicken (one of their specialties) was as dry as a bone and also had a revolting NON raspberry sause. The pork chop was just as dry as the chicken (also with a bizarre sause) You know when a resteraunt is hideing all of their food under sause that something is wrong! There was nothing good I could say about the food here. After this meal all of us wished we had just saved the money and eaten at mcdonalds...it was that bad! Such a shame... it could be a really charming place.
Terrible Service!. The food was good. That was it. It took over an hour to be seated, after watching many people go in that had come after us. Once we were finally seated the server was very rude. She didn't welcome or smile or even say hello. She did the bare minimum. We had to stop her to get anything that she had forgotten. The people in our group have all worked in the food business and it was the worst we had ever seen. I will not go back and I will never recommend this to anyone.
Best breakfast in Utah. I love driving to Ruth's for Sunday morning breakfast (although it is often quite crowded and a fairly lengthy weight, it's worth it). They give you a delicious soft cakey biscuit with raspberry jam for free with your meal. My favorite breakfast item is the Crab Benedict. It's eggs benedict with crab cakes in place of english muffins and sliced tomatoes instead of ham, so delicious!
In response to: "Poor service, nasty food".
Ruth's Diner strives for nothing but excellent service & outstanding food. If you or any other customer has had an unpleasant experience, then we would like to start off with a sincere apology and a thank you for bringing it to our attention.
However, we feel that there may be a few factual inaccuracies in your complaint.
First of all, last summer there was no female chef, prep cook or dishwasher employed at Ruth's Diner. Second, there is an employee bathroom located in the back of the kitchen, away from the service floor, and we have a strict policy requiring all employees, both kitchen and service staff, to use said bathroom while on the clock. The bathroom in the actual restaurant is for our customers only. Third, we feel that if this situation had been brought to the attention of an actual manager (of which there is always one on shift, and never have any of them been under the age of 25) then we feel that the problem would have no doubt been rectified, then and there.
Once again, we apologize if you did in fact have a "gross gross gross" experience at Ruth's Diner, and we promise you that we as a staff will do our best to ensure that a situation like the one described could not nor will ever happen again.
Little bit of a drive but worth it. My husband lives for breakfast and a friend recommended Ruths Diner. It's a little bit of a drive to get up the canyon but in the end we thought it was worth it. Loved the biscuits and hash. My eggs and sausage were average diner food but my husband is still raving over the cinnamon roll french toast. We will definitely be coming back. We visited early on a weekday.. so seating and service were no problem.
Poor service, nasty food.. We went here last summer and it was terrible. If I could give it a negative scoreI would. They took forever to take our order and then I couldn't even eat the food. Before our food came to the table I took my 3 year old daughter to the bathroom, well the cook was in there and had the diarreha and didn't look the door so my little girl walked in on her, she then proceded to yell at my child, it wasn't her fault the stupid women didn't lock the door. We waited outside the bathroom for the lady to leave, when she was done I never heard the faucet turn on and the sink was dry when we entered, the smell was terrible and ruined my appetite, but then the thought of her returning to cook my meal without washing her hands made me sick to my stomach. After our food arrived I asked to speak to the manager and a girl no older than 16 came to our table, she had no concern about our order being messed up and wasn't at all worried about the cook not washing her hands. Gross Gross Gross, we will never no back and never recommed them to anyone.
The Eggs Benedict are Phenomenal !!!!!!.
I absolutley love ruth's I started going their for breakfast about 2 years ago and I never leave discouraged.
the atmosphere is wonderful , and that biscuit and jam that you get at the beggining of the meal is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how great the food is, I have absolutley no complaints . It is a tradition that I share with my best friend to go there for breakfast once a month when the weather is warm, and I can't wait to make it out there for dinner sometime!
Poor Service and Poor Food.
I will periodically go back to see if the food has gotten and better?.. That is still NO!
The service was Horrible my last visit, for some reason the waiter would not give us the time of day, yes he took our order after about 20 min of sitting and waiting for him, then he would help everyone around us and never checked back with us, I had to go up the bar and get my drink. I left him a $1.00 tip and said once again Poor food and Poor service.
Ruth?s does have a great location, but that is about all they have going for them.
I was disappointed to read you review about you recent visit to Ruth's Diner. I have recently taken over ownership of Ruth's and am currently working to improve service and food quality. If you could give me a little more information aboout your experience I would appreciate.
What day were you here? breakfast, lunch or dinner? Who was your server, (if you still have your receipt it will be on there. What food items did you have, if you have your reciept a the table # and time on it,will help me track your order. Once again I apologize for the experience you had here, and hope I can rectify the problem after I get your response.

Awful place to eat. I've never had a good meal at Ruth's; the food is consistently undercooked and unpalatable. The wait for a table is too long, the wait staff are unhelpful and unfriendly, and I've never understood in the twelve years that I've lived here in Salt Lake why it seems to be such a popular spot. Don't bother--there are many more wonderful places to eat than this.

Bad service and food. Don't recommend this place. The service is poor. The food is poor. The wait is ridiculously long. Not worth the short drive. Would rather keep driving up the canyon to a better restaurant.
