Honest and Fair

Stand up guy X 2 and about a decade apart. 1997 or so my Isuzu Trooper needs top end work and I take it to Bryce. @ days after I get it back I don't think it's quite right and I have him take a look at it. He tells me that the problem is something specific to Isuzu Troopers and he just missed it and he eats the time it takes him to fix it (about a day of labor)

2006 I take my Jeep Cherokee to an oil change place and get an oil change. About a week later my Jeep spits up almost it's entire oil capacity minutes after I start it. I frankly think it's a head gasket. Inspection by Bryce finds a 75 buck part that got roughed up by the oil change guys that was cracked and took a week of pressure before failing.

Two different instances where I could have been fleeced were it not for dealing with a stand up guy.

Negligent Repair

I went in to have a coolant leak stopped and found out that the water pump was giving out. Bryce recommended that i replace the timing belt as well, which seemed like a good idea. i really dont know much about cars, but after this repair i found out a lot about what he should have done.

1. he never offered to replace the thermostat.

2. he used the same timing belt components without checking them. i know this because one of the pulleys snapped while driving about 300 miles away, and the others were full of cracks.

3. he failed to put the serpentine belt on correctly, and the day after i got it back from him the belt fell off, causing me to lose power steering and engine cooling. his recommendation was that i drive it in a little at a time. after i went a couple blocks i called him and told asked how long it would take to get to him. he said i should only go one block at a time and that it would take about 4 hours. he eventually, begrudgingly, sent a tow truck.

4. the issue with the serpentine belt caused my alignment to be off, because he had me drive without my power steering. he never offered to fix that.

i called him to request a compromise on my emergency repair bill in st George that was caused by the pulley breaking in half, and he started yelling at me. the compromise would have cost him roughly 1/4th the bill i had to pay to have a repair done on sunday($504 was the amt i was billed then).

after the emergency repairs i had to do in st. George he adjusted the timing belt 2 teeth(which took over a week to do somehow) and declared that we were all even. my compromise would have only had him doing my emissions, safety, and registration for me. because of all the extra costs i incurred due to his actions i have no car for a week again.

thanks a lot Bryce. I'll see you in court.

Good,Honest,Fair and Local !!

If you want a fair shake and like to deal local,this is the place. I went across the street to I wont say where and was given an estimate that Bryce beat by 25%. He does good honest work and has worked on all of my vehicles. He seems knowledgable about most everything and told me if he couldnt fix it he would refer me to someone honest that could. This is my mechanic,and I am glad he is close by.

The Best There Is In SLC - No question about it.

I have known Bryce and used his services for about 15 years, both in his present business and at the place he previously worked. I have utmost confidence in him, and I wouldn't use anyone else. On occaision I have had to use dealer services because of warranty issues. Those experinces have been dissasters compared to the caring attention I get from Bryce. He is honest with his estimates and his actual charges. If there is an issue of unforseen requirements, he always calls to get approval before moving forward. I don't know what the above person's wife said or did, but her description in NOT the Bryce Knapton that I know!

• Pros: Very honest and understanding
• Cons: None that I have observed

MY SHOP, MY MECHANIC, and FOR A GOOD REASON

I've never had a negative experience with Bryce and I've had him work on my two cars on four or five separate occassions. He caters his approach to the work he does on my cars to me, specifically. He's gotten to know me and knows my objective is to have a functioning vehicle at as low of a cost as possible. He lets me know the types of things I can get away with, their advantages and disadvantages. He knows I think owning a new vehicle is the biggest waste of money, and money that I don't have. He keeps my beaters in working order at a price I can afford. This man could be your mechanic, but you take your car to corporate America and get robbed.
