Tips for Tres Hombres

November 25, 2012

So, I have been looking at these reviews and wondering to myself if we are all talking about the same Tres Hombres I know and love. I know that it's easy to write really bad things behind a computer screen and even easier to dole out opinions that are at best, unreliable. But, please heed my warning, TRY IT FOR YOURSELF. If you truly love Mexican food, then you will love some of these dishes I am going to highlight for you.

1. Habanero Shrimp- Seriously, to die for. If you are like me and love some serious heat and delicious spices then this is the dish for you. The shrimp are huge, super tasty and then they add in a bunch of veggies and peppers that make it perfect.

2. Shrimp Cocktail-Obviously, I love seafood, so I am a fairly tough critic. However, they have unbelievable shrimp, along with mahi and crab in other dishes. This is the perfect starter, or to share along with your meal. Super refreshing, avocado, cucumber, tomato, cilantro, onion and perfect portions of all. LOVE, definitely a must.

3. Carne Asada- Top sirloin done in a perfect blend of spices, loaded with flavor and super juicy. They add a blue corn cheese enchilada which is a nice addition to the steak, balances it out.

4. Grilled Chicken Salad- As far as salads go, this knocks it out of the park. Loaded with chicken, super refreshing and perfect for lunch-they do lunch portions on a majority of their entrees, or as a starter for two. I love the homemade dressings they offer, chipotle ranch-nice and spicy but creamy, creamy tomatillo, and a house made vinaigrette that is unlike any other, my personal favorite. I would stick with the chipotle ranch or creamy tomatillo with this salad though.

DRINKS!

One of my favorite things about Tres Hombres is that they have one of the largest tequila selections in Utah. Their margarita menu is stellar and offers something for everyone's taste and preference of tequila or flavor. My favorite marg is the Pamarita, sweet but balanced out with enough tartness to make it killer on the taste buds. Dos Equis on draft, always perfect pairing with Mexican food.

They have some great house made desserts, flan and tres leches are my favorites. Also, all salsas and chips are made in house every day and they have multiple salsas to choose from aside from what you get brought to your table. Always ask for a sample so you can taste which salsa fits your taste best.

So, in conclusion, I hope this helps as a guide for all who are new or returning to Tres Hombres. It should not only enrich your experience, but also, prove some fairly negative opinionated peoples reviews wrong.

Salud and happy eating!!

Upon arrival the hostess took us to a table that had not been cleaned, there she had us awkwardly stand in front of another guest's table while we waited for a busboy to come. Eventually we were able to sit and order drinks. We received our food about three minutes after our drinks arrived and what came out was bland, pre-prepped cuisine. Our waitress (who we overheard was at the end of her shift) kept interrupting us to see if we were done. The meal was tasteless, overpriced for the quality and rushed. Very disappointing considering the proximity of this restaurant to our home; we will not be returning.

Salt Lake's Best Mexican Place. I have been going to Tres Hombres for 10 Years and the service and quality of food is still excellent.

My favorite is the Shrimp Enchilada with a Margarita...

By the way their Chips & Salsa are amazing as well.

Believe me, but try it for yourself :))

GOOD RIDDANCE IGNORAMUS !!!!. I was just reading the review left by the customer that tried to use a Gift Certificate at this restaurant. I generally don't write reviews, but when I saw this diatribe, I felt I had to respond. I was seated in the booth right behind you and having to listen to your belligerence made not only my family feel uncomfortable, but everyone else who was within earshot of you. The manager or owner who dealt with you did so in a calm and even manner and you were most unreasonable. I for one am jubilant you won't ever be going back so my family doesn't have to listen to the trash and lies flowing from your mouth.

This restaurant is clean and has a very friendly staff. I think if someone wants to use these special Gift Certificates they need to read the terms before they make all the guests have to listen to their problems.

I have been going in there for over 20 years and have never seen a sight as to what this customer displayed in front of all the families that were trying to enjoy their meal.

Stay AWAY!!!!. I could not be more disappointed with this restaurant.

The service is lousy, the food is ok, but the owner is lucky he's still in business. I'm certain his manager is the only reason he still has any customers.

If you have a gift certificate to this place you might as well throw it away since they won't honor it anyway!

The owner refused to accept our gift certificate and said that he hates seeing them come through his door (last time I checked, a gift certificate had the same value as cash). The manager apologized but they will NEVER see my family again.

Do yourself a favor, go to a restaurant with better food and better service.

Salt Lake's best Mexican, hands down. Tres Hombres reminds me of the type of quality that one might expect in a location such as Old Town San Diego. The chips and salsa are the best I have ever had and I always order a second bowl, which can be had in exchange for some spare change. The hosts and hostesses are very friendly and actually get to know the customers and truly care about providing a welcoming atmosphere.

The enchiladas are all very good, with my favorite being the seafood varieties. Everything at Tres Hombres tastes incredibly fresh, from the corn tortillas to the vegetables in the fajitas. I would also recommend the Coctel de Camarones which is refreshing and combines so many great flavors.

No trip to Tres would be complete without a Margarita and this restaurant has the most extensive list of Tequila and Margarita varieties that I have ever seen.

The bottom line is if you like attentive service and excellent, yet relatively inexpensive Mexican food then Tres Hombres is the spot.

Best Mexican food in town. I went in with 3 of my friends and the first thing you notice is the jungle like atmosphere. We all had one of their house margaritas to start and couldn't stay away from them, along with the chips and salsa. If you like seafood the crab quesadilla is a great appetizer to start with. The shrimp and steak fajitas were absolutely amazing, great flavor and a hearty portion of food. My friends had the carne asada burrito, enchiladas Zacatecas and the mahi tacos and we couldn't have asked for a better time there. Our server told us he had been working there for 15+ years and he really showed us that there is a reason he's been there so long. We will definitely be back for more!
