Editorial Review for Liberty Heights Fresh – by Virginia Rainey
The Scene
This is the shop for Utahns who believe food is an art. The owner has redesigned and reconfigured the small corner shop---a converted gas station---to take advantage of every square inch of space, floor to ceiling. In the summertime, the old garage doors are left open to make room for the abundance of flowers, fruits and vegetables.
The Goods
If it's available in Utah, Liberty Heights will have it. The dairy case offers a variety of aged and farmstead cheeses, creme fraiche and other specialty items. Shoppers can feast their eyes on extra-virgin olive oils and aged vinegars, imported pastas, spices and shelves of condiments. And, of course, there's produce--everything in season and everything that's not. An olive bar tempts food aficionados to dip into exotic olives by the pound. Shoppers can expect to pay top dollar, but when the produce is at peak quality, it's worth it.

Insider Tips
ParkingFree parking is available in the lot directly east of the shop. The few spaces outside the store fill up quickly, especially on weekends and early evenings.
The ExtrasGift certificates (perhaps paired with a Liberty Heights tote bag?) make great presents for the gourmand in your life. Buckets of flowers near the front of the store will often have some unusual selections for sale.

Liberty Heights Fresh has been one of my favorite stores since it opened over 10 years ago. They have a beautiful selection of produce & fresh flowers, fresh breads with many local products.

This place no longer the largest variety of deli goods and cheeses goods in SLC. Harmons at the Brickyard, after their recent remodel, has just as much or maybe more! If you want German deli, the place to go to is Sigfreids downtown. If you want Italian deli, go to Caputos or Granatos. This is a place to go when you need something special that is hard to find, but is way too expensive to use as your everyday market.
Pros: Excellent selection, especially of difficult to find items
Cons: VERY expensive
