Editorial Review for Utah State Capitol – by Stefene Russell
Overview
It looks exactly like our nation's capitol, but it's built from Utah granite, and the dome is layered with copper (which patinated green, but was actually shiny again for a few months in the '80s, when the sheet copper had to be replaced after being ripped off by a violent windstorm).
The Experience
Yes, we do things our own way here, and though the architecture looks federal, it doesn't mirror the nature of the building or what goes on inside it. Mind-boggling pioneer murals cover the interior of the dome, the Mormon Meteor was housed here for years, and we all know where the loyalties of the Utah legislature lie. Guided tours begin every half-hour, daily from 9am to 3pm, and procede from the map of Utah. Self-guided tours are free on Saturday and Sunday.
