Best Sushi EVER!. We Love this place! We always sit up at the sushi bar and we are never disappointed. We try to go to other sushi restaurants, but we always end up back at Pagoda. Very good. The service does leave something to be desired, but the sushi chefs make up for what the servers lack. I would recommend this place to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Thanks Pagoda!

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!!. If I could, I would give it 0 stars! My boyfriend and I moved to the avenues a year ago and we drive past this place all the time. We decided to to try it for a date night out, I wished we would have saved the money and had a date night in.

- OVERPRICED: Some of their rolls have the option of doing half a roll (4 out of 8 rolls) but they cost almost as much as a regular roll. Also, see WHERE'S THE FISH comment.

- WAIT TIME FOR FOOD: It took us 30 minutes to get 3 rolls and an extra 20 minutes to get our last roll!

- WHERE'S THE FISH?: Smith's sushi has more fish and bigger rolls than this so called sushi restaurant!

- OUR WAITRESS and CHEFS: She was pathetic! She brought us our 3 rolls and left without telling us where our fourth roll was. While we were finishing our 3 rolls she came back to tell us our last roll was being made. Ten minutes passed when she finally came back to tell us that another waiter had taken our roll for another customer, so we had to wait an extra 10 minutes for our last roll to be made. After receiving our last roll we waited for our waitress to come back w/ our check but she disappeared! We had to get our check from the manager because they couldn't find her!

- WENT HOME EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND STILL HUNGRY!!! WE HAD TO MAKE A PIZZA AND JALAPENO POPPERS!

Really Disappointed. We used to go to the Pagoda regularly when living in SLC. Now that we're living away from the city, we had hoped to find it annually as a treat and tradition for the winter. We missed going for a few years and took the trip to SLC to enjoy the experience again. It was not only completely different, it was nowhere near as good. I would say it was actually really bad. We're not opposed to trying something different if it's a tasty result. Something's happened and it's not good. So much for tradition. So sad.

Best Sushi Anywhere. We tried Pagoda for the first time tonight. And, we'll be going back for more. The sushi was the BEST ANYWHERE. And, the atmosphere was comfortable and very beautiful. Love it!

First time, future repeat customer. What can I say. My wife and I felt pampered on our anniversary tonight. After hiking Ensign Peak to watch a magnificent sunset we stopped by for a late dinner.

The shrimp/vegetable tempura was light and crisp, the baha sunset sushi was delicious, and the mochi ice cream was just icing on the cake. We received excellent service from our waitress.

I'll definitely be heading back for some more tempura, sushi, dessert, and to try some more dishes..

The New Pagoda Is Our New Favorite Restaurant. I have read the previous reviews saying that the new Pagoda isn't the same restaurant as it used to be...and they're right. And that's why our family now eats there at least once a week instead of once every 4-5 years! We have lived in the Avenues for over 10 years. Prior to the addition of sushi to the menu, we ate there twice--each time with friends who suggested we meet there for dinner. The atmosphere was quaint and charming. I can see why people are nostalgic for the old days. But, honestly, we never cared for the old menu. We would take home half of our dinner food, put it in the fridge, and throw it away several days later.

However, for the last year, my kids have begged to go to Pagoda several times a week. They can't get enough! I fear they have developed a serious addiction to the cream cheese wontons, served with a delicious warm fruit sauce. With their amazing prices on Cali rolls, I don't fuss at my son if he orders three rolls. My other son is more adventurous and tends to order different rolls every time. My favorites are the Baja and the Mars. But never once, since we became fans of the new Pagoda, have we had to ask for a take-home box. My picky kids are like human vaccuums at Pagoda--if I order two rolls and can't finish them, one of my sons is sure to assist.

Yes, many people are change-averse. I get that. But if you are a sushi fan, Pagoda's sushi is the best in town. I can't speak for the rest of the menu since we never order anything but appetizers (soup and wontons), sushi, and the occasional dessert (either mochi or their delicious Bananas Foster--which my children aren't very good about sharing with me). However, I'm thrilled to have a neighborhood restaurant that my entire family can agree on. And that just wasn't a possibility when the old Pagoda menu was in place.

Not the same resturant we grew up loving!. If you grew up loving the Pagdoda like generations of my family did, don't bother eating here. Since Fudge and Mary quit working in the resturant and have sadly passed on, the food has COMPLETELY CHANGED! No more butterfly shrimp, No more BBQ spareribs. No more Char Shu.. Very Sad.....

We know real food..n' stuff.. As being connoisseurs of all things holy, Server was prompt yet awkward however stimulating... with conversation. Presentation of sushi roll's were fairly poor, and less than desirable. Although, Baja Sunset Roll was immaculate and delectable, slightly orgasmic, and fresh. Maguro sashimi, was flaky and dried out, to that of a 90 year old woman's....... hands. It was overly fishy, like my ex girl friends....................Fish tank. We had a beer, which made this experience much more pleasant. Furthermore. We may be returning, because it's right around the corner from our house :)

A Rising Star in SLC Japanese Cuisine. I've been around eating at Japanese Places for over 25 years in the Salty City, and until just the other day did not like eating here. The previous older menu items were very disappointing to me, but obviously not everybody thought so, as this place has been in business for a very long time. The other day I was in the Cucina Deli in the Avenues and overheard somebody say that Pagoda had changed, and it was really good. I went there to check it out, and he was right. This place is definitely worth checking out. I rated them 4 stars for a variety of reasons, but I believe it won't be long before they become a 5 star shining star in SLC...

The Best Sushi in Salt Lake. If you love (or even like) sushi, there is no better sushi in Salt Lake. A lot of the local specialty rolls were invented by Steve and Marlene who have recently moved to the Pagoda from Ginza. The Mars Roll, Firebreathing Dragon, and Baja Sunset...absolutely delicious. The Spicy Tuna Roll is out of this world.
