Editorial Review for Market Street Broiler – by Barbara Schmiett

The Scene
During warm weather months, the appealing brick patio is typically full. It has an intimate and romantic feel even though it sits just off a busy street. There are a number of choices for seating--upstairs, outside, counter or first available. Unless you have time to burn, take the gamble and go for the first available. The renovated 1930s fire station offers cozy seating upstairs or an enormously long counter just inside the entrance.

The Food
The Broiler's claim to fame is that it does it right, time after time. Fish--whether fried, broiled, steamed, or baked, is always fresh and well-prepared. Try fresh Atlantic salmon with cucumber dill sauce or Maine lobster tails with scampi butter. Or choose from a variety of seafood pasta dishes and steaks.

I was so badly disappointed with the food and service today at this Market Street location that I had to write a few words about it. I have been going to Gastronomy restaurants for over 20 years--what happened?? My husband and I had lunch--we ate at the bar but it took 20 minutes to get served a drink. I had a glass of red wine that must have been kept in a chiller--it was freezing. My husband ordered a sandwich with fries-the fries didn't come out with our lunch order and the waiter promised to retirieve them a soon as he could. Guess what-we were done eating and still no fries. Also, in the bar food prep area, the house salad that was being served came from a metal bin overflowing onto a dirty counter -- this was actually being served to patrons in the restaurant. No one in this food prep area was wearing gloves but handling food (bread, soup, salad, etc. I can only imagaine what the kitchen must be like. Sorry, there are so many other restaurant choices in the Salt Lake area - I will not be visiting a Market Street for a very long time.

Cons: Poor Service, Unsanitary food prep area

The worst salmon and halibut I have had since I partook of the school lunch program in junior high. I would rather order fish sticks at McDonalds for a dfew bucks than pay the $120.00 (for four) last night.

Pros: Appetizers good

Cons: Main course bad
