Editorial Review for Salvation Army – by Michael Call
Facts
Many families who come to Salt Lake with nothing can come here to find food, clothing and household items. For others in need of a hot meal, the Salvation Army's soup kitchen provides dinner 364 days of the year (every day except Thanksgiving -- several other organizations feed the hungry and homeless on that day). The facility also houses a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center for people with substance-abuse problems. If a person needs work, the Salvation Army offers temporary jobs at its warehouse and thrift stores, which are principal sources of funding for the organization's programs.
Features
You can support the Salvation Army by shopping for recycled clothing, household goods, and furniture at these stores. You can also volunteer to serve meals at the community dining room any day between 1pm and 3pm.
