Editorial Review for Repertory Dance Theatre – by Renee Lowry
The Skinny
In 1966, the Rockefeller Foundation gave the University of Utah a generous grant to begin what became the Repertory Dance Theatre. Clive Barnes of the New York Post called RDT "one of the liveliest and most imaginative dance troupes in the world." Linda C. Smith now directs the company. RDT has established a national touring company, and has performed in more than 300 cities throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
The Show
Expect everything, minus anything traditional. Particularly noteworthy is "Worldview," which features guest artists sharing foreign dance techniques. A lavish multimedia display was used in the recent "Currents and Streams" production. As part of the Arts in Education program, RDT offers free in-school performances, demonstrations and teacher in-service workshops. The organization also sponsors summer workshops and year-round classes.
