Editorial Review for Salt Lake Art Center – by Jason Esplin
Gallery Vibe
Founded in 1931, Salt Lake Art Center is, quite literally, in the center of the city. The building was remodeled a few years ago and its new look complements the neo-urban style of its trendy neighbors--the Salt Palace and Abravanel Hall.
Education
SLAC offers four-month classes in photography and pottery, and schedules regular tours for students. Behind the Main Gallery, the Art Center houses a workroom for film-makers, a darkroom for photographers, and a studio for potters.
Exhibits
The downstairs Main Gallery rotates national touring exhibits every four months, while the smaller Street Level Gallery, usually exhibiting the work of local artists, brings in a new show every six weeks. "Articles," SLAC's artist mercantile gift shop, sells jewelry, gifts, and other odds and ends made by local artists.
