Editorial Review for Siegfried's Deli – by Lisa Johnson

The Scene
If you like huge, steamy bratwurst, German potato salad, cooked cabbage, and schnitzel, this Bavarian deli with a small dining room is the place for you. It's one of the few places in the area that specializes in German food, and you'll see many native Germans come in for takeout or to buy the ingredients to make dinner at home.

The Food
Sandwiches are sold, along with bread, meat, and cheese¿all freshly sliced. Black Forest Cake is a Siegried's specialty, and many people order their layered cakes for special occasions. You'll also find a variety of chocolates and European cookies. It's helpful to know exactly what you want when you go in, because a number of the employees speak much better German than English.

This place is amazing! Very authentic German food, lots of imports, and a deli/bakery. The bratwursts are perfect! The fried potatoes! Hot Potato Salad! It is all so good. But if you are going for lunch, (great value) go early. Although they are extremely fast the line can stretch out the door daily. If you want the staff to kiss your butt and be super nice to you, this is not the place for you. They have a lot of customers and that European lack of sugary treatment, you will not feel special when you leave here, just full and happy.

Pros: Authentic German Food that I love!

Cons: Authentic German Food that freaks me out a little

Siegfried's has a wide lunch menu selection. I happily travel from Utah county to enjoy a lunch of Spaetzle with brown gravy, Sauerkraut, Red Cabbage, any of the Schnitzels or Weißwurst (although it is taboo to eat Weißwurst after noon - it's just too good to pass up. Maybe I can talk the ladies into opening up for breakfast). Since I get full too quickly it is nice to have the deli bar where I can make a few selections to take home for dinner or put in the freezer for another day. I highly recommend Siegfried's for lunch or dinner.

Pros: Food, price, proprietors

Cons: Unorganized waiting line, but it is because they are so popular
