Great food, not-so-great service. I love the food at Cafe Trang, but their service isn't all that awesome, even on very slow nights. The food makes up for it most of the time, though! The General Tso's is my boyfriend's favorite, the caramel pork and chicken lettuce wraps with plum sauce are tasty as well. The hot and sour soup is quite spicy, and very flavorful. The green curry was too spicy, but bland at the same time... it's the only dish I've ever been disappointed in. I have had problems with language barriers on several visits, and the waitresses aren't very familiar with the new menus, so don't rely on suggestions. Don't expect to get prompt refills on drinks, the waitresses disappear after your food has been brought out.

Stick with Vietnamese. This is an old favorite of mine. I have always liked the flavors of the Vietnamese food and even some of the Chinese food here. They have however changed their menu. They offer a lot less Vietnamese food and now they think they know how to make Thai food. I ordered a Curry out of curiousity it was bad. The Pho noodles I had with it were good as usual. They should stay with what they do best/ By the way I tasted their Pad Thai awful.

An enduring favorite for ethnic flavors fresh from the wok.. The Scene
Booths and tables fill three dining rooms. Fish tanks add splashes of color and light, while on busy nights--most nights--contented patrons add their buzz to the bustle of busy waiters and clamor from the kitchen.

The Food
Cafe Trang specializes in Vietnamese dishes, but there's also a smattering of Chinese selections. Start with plump pot stickers or the fresh spring rolls served with rich peanut dipping sauce. For entrees, patrons generally go with favorites like salt-baked shrimp, charbroiled pork and lemon grass chicken with red peppers. But the lengthy menu offers room for exploring: Clay-pot catfish, various noodles and vermicelli and salt-steamed chicken are worthy options. A relative bounty of vegetarian selections includes a tamarind soup and bean curd with lemon grass or with scallions and ginger. Drinkwise, there are local beers on tap and a wine list.

Always good. I eat here once a week and never have the same thing except the iced coffee. Always good food. Much to choose from. Service can vary from one time to another with

mistakes with orders or communication problems. Always fast with food to the table. Pretty good Oriental place.

Up there with the best like Kyoto and Bangkok Thai.

Ignore the mall and go!. Don't let the mall setting put you off. The Vietnamese and Thai dishes on this extensive menu are delicious, authentic and inexpensive. Fresh herbs and delicious broths make the soup items a must!

Awesome mall food!. Best restaurant in Cottonwood Mall. Prices are a little higher than average, but worth it. The lone time I've been there, I got carry-out.

This is the among the best Oriental-Vietnamese fare I've encountered here in SLC.

seen better days. Cafe Trang used to be good...what happened? The food is mediocre, the restaraunt is dirty and the service is average.

Yumm. Everytime I have been to Cafe Trang the service and food have been amazing. In my dining career, I have become one of those dreaded customers that quizzes the server on what to eat. Each time at Cafe Trang they barely seem annoyed by the time commitment I demand and ultimately point me in the right direction. Excellent quality for the price and service. The Shrimp Curry Special they had the other night was sooo yummy.
