This wonderful place has closed down.. They have closed down. I believe it was around mid-April. I loved, loved, loved their food. It's rather sad, cause this was the only place in town where you could get original soups that were high quality.

Perfect Soup. I love big city soup. i can't get there enough though.. i miss the old location on mainstreet. The thai tofu noodle is my favorite. The only thing I suggest is lowering the price and then charging for bread & cheese slice option.

Best soup in Utah - never had better!. Prices are a little higher but worth it! I've never had such good soup. Whenever there's a special occasion or we feel like splurging, we go to Big City Soup - lots of choices and DELICIOUS!

Okay food, good service, ugly atmosphere.. I was pretty hopeful with this place since a friend recommended it. Unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. First the good; The women behind the counter were quite friendly and answered my questions politely. The soup was pretty good, better than some soup places. The bread was fairly soft even though it was later in the day, and mixed okay with the soup. They also give you a piece of cheese and a mint with your order. A nice touch.

Now the bad; What a dump. The floor is horrible, I've seen nicer garage floors. The chairs and tables are badly mismatched, and the window table is supported by cheap galvanized pipe! The ceiling is straight out of a warehouse, the kitchen equipment looks like it was all bought used, and this is a pretty new restaurant too. The paint job is shabby at best. At first I thought they were going for an industrial setting, so it's okay, but they didn't even pull that off, it's in too much disarray. There are large signs on the wall stating the menu choices, but no prices are listed. Prices are on a small sheet off to the side. And there's a reason, the prices are way high. $7 for a bowl of soup that looks larger than it is? $1 for an extra piece of bread? Considering the cheap environment, this price is even more of a shocker. With all the money they saved on furniture, equipment, and design, and probably paying the employees just above minimum wage, the soup should be about $2.50-$3 a bowl. Bottom Line; All you are getting is okay soup for more than you would pay at a nice restaurant and you get to feel like you are eating in your garage.

awesome soup with no frills. This place is totally authentic. These guys love soup, they don't love decorations, table service, sandwiches or salads (though they have bothof the latter), they love soup. They do one thing and they do it really well. I eat there all the time and will continue to do so in the future. can be loud at lunch when the restaurant is full which is all the time.

EXPENSIVE. TOO EXPENSIVE FOR SOUP. THERE IS TOO MUCH COMPETITION WITH BETTER SOUP AND BETTER PRICES FOR ME TO EVER GO BACK THERE.

BEST SOUP in SLC. Thai chicken noodle soup. Roast pork tortilla soup. Both fantastic! Always order soups in the 16oz. size. The best basil chicken salad sandwich anywhere. Try the ginger flavored lemonade. Decor is Early (worn-out) industrial, retro funk. Now that they are open 'til 7 p.m., this is the best place to eat at the Gateway (one block south). And, at this location, there are actually places (some) to park.

A testament to doing one thing and doing it well.. The Scene
It's an urban, industrial-looking space with a lively, bright and spacious atmosphere. White tile walls, wood floors and glass-covered tables with a large serving station at the center of it all. It's definitely a casual dining experience.



The Food
Soups range from thick and hearty to light and refreshing. Though it might seem a bit expensive at first ($5.59 to $6.53 for a 12-ounce serving), you're likely to walk away full and satisfied. The Thai chicken noodle is pleasantly spiced and full of flavor. Surprisingly, the dish is dairy free--the rich creaminess comes from coconut milk. The Boston clam chowder doesn't skimp on creamy flavor and it's loaded with succulent, fleshy clams and fresh vegetables. Another hearty winner is the wild rice and mushroom blend--crimini and shiitake mushrooms add wonderful texture to this dense, hearty concoction. Lighter offerings include tomato basil soup and chilled gazpacho.
