Editorial Review for Wildflowers: Antelope Island State Park – by Robyn Galbos
The Scene
The largest island in the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island, is accessible via a seven-mile paved causeway. With its location on the lake, the park is a popular spot for swimming, boating, picnicking, and sunbathing. Also popular on Antelope Island are hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and camping. Perhaps the greatest asset of Antelope Island State Park, though, is the wildlife.
The Wildlife
Birds make extensive use of the wetlands and the lake, and a large herd of buffalo lives undisturbed on the island. Each autumn, the buffalo are herded, branded, inoculated, and released; visitors can watch the entire process up close. Finally, the absence of city lights makes the island a wonderful spot to go star gazing.
