Sweeney Todd at the Egyptian.
My family and I were recently able to see the most recent play at the Egyptian Theatre. Sweeney Todd.
WHAT A FABULOUS RELEASE for the Halloween season. We were able to get a "sneak" preview the night before opening. We were not sure what to expect... we were very pleasantly surprised.
The performance went off without a hitch, the music, costumes, sets (humble though they may be, but very functional) and especially the actors and their performances were AMAZING!!! This is the first time to see a performance there at the Egyptian .. the setting and location added to the spooky feeling.
Thank you so much for a job well done!!! KUDOS to all involved in the current production and in the running and managing of the theatre.
Amazing Theatre. The theatre was is great landmark for Park City Utah. The staff were very helpful and friendly. My family saw 3 productions in 2 weeks! All three were GREAT! Live musical theatre from broadway! The prices were really good for the show too. We didnt pay more than $25 for a ticket! Professional theatre with high values. Very comfortable seating.
One of two Egyptian-revival buildings in Utah, this venue houses a thriving theater group..
The Scene
Originally designed to accommodate 400 patrons, Park City's historic Egyptian Theatre is a replica of Warner's Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif., and was built in 1926 as a venue for traveling vaudeville shows. It has also been a saloon, a movie theater and a live theater venue. Designated a historic building in 1984, the theater underwent a $1.5 million renovation in 1998 and remains one of only two Egyptian-revival buildings in Utah--the other is the Egyptian Theatre in Ogden.
The Appeal
Now known as the Mary G. Steiner Egyptian Theatre, this Main Street landmark is home to the Egyptian Theatre Company, one of only five equity theater groups in Utah. Its repertoire consists of stage plays ranging in style from the avant-garde to musical review, but the Sundance Film Festival has also been known to corral the space for its movie screenings.
