The Scene
This is one of old town's long-time favorites, open since 1973. The inside is on the dark side, but cozy with a large fireplace raging in the winter. An odd touch: the brief menus are on the sides of empty wine bottles.
The Food
They don't mess around with fancy appetizers here--this is a steak joint, so get a drink or a bottle of wine and settle in for a big dinner. If you really need something before dinner, get the sauteed mushrooms. It's a no-brainer to go for the New York steak or prime rib. The massive steaks are grilled to perfection in the open kitchen. There are some non-beef choices--including teriyaki chicken, Utah trout and salmon--but the stick with the beef. All entrees come with salad and potato. Share the Mud Pie for dessert--the mega-sized slice will serve anywhere from two to four.

First, as my wife and I walked in the door (25 minutes after the restaurant opened) the greeter was putting on his tie and combing his hair in the mirror. Finally, when he was done he then proceeded to seat us. As we walked through the restaurant the waiters and waitresses were all sitting around a table in the back with their feet up laughing and being obnoxious. Then a snooty waiter finally got off his duff and asked what we wanted, the rest of the time he wondered around the restaurant, sat on the porch outside and talked on the phone. Why do people go to restaurants? They can make the food at home just as well as any chef can! People go to restaurants for the experience and the ambiance. Sorry, Claimjumper, but with out superior service your just another restaurant that I would never recommend to anyone.

On 27 Jun 05, I brought several out of town guests to the Claim Jumper on Main Street in Park City. Our waitress was great, wish I could report her name. The salad was outstanding. However, 5 out of 7 quests ordered the supposedly "prime" filet -- which turned out to inedible...full of grizzle and not pleasing at all...certainly not the prime beef we had all experienced across the country (almost all of the meat went back on our plates, although it was cooked exactly to our specifications). The poor quality of the meat was brought to the attention of management ...and what we received, in turn, was a small dessert for the table. It hardly removed the bad taste of the meat. Two people ordered prime rib - both bone-in and boneless, They said their meat was great!

The menu was very limited, so I ordered the ribs and my husband had the mahi-mahi. My ribs were pretty good; a little on the fatty side but good. The loaded potato was excellent and the salad was to die for...great dressing. The fish, however, wasn't anything to write home about (Outback is much better). The atmosphere was intriguing....very western. I half expected to see Doc Holliday at a table in the corner. Everyone should try this place at least once.
