The Scene
Tucked away mid-mountain at Deer Valley in the Silver Lake Lodge, Mariposa is the definition of rustic elegance. There are tree trunk beams, wood floors, and a roaring fireplace in an intimate corner of the room. There's a hush and a reverence here for the beautiful food and the snowflakes floating down outside.
The Food
From wild game to fresh fish, the very best delicacies are made with the perfect sauces and sides rendering dishes that look like works of art. If you're having trouble deciding what to order, try the Mariposa mixed grill--a gourmet sample plate of lamb chop, venison medallion and wild boar sausage with caramelized shallot, Montmorency cherry and whole grain mustard sauces, portobello mushrooms and mashed potatoes. Desserts are delectable and creative.

We enjoyed our meal there and the atmosphere is lovely but I think the food is just a bit over rated. It's nice but not fantastic. Service is top notch. Pricey.

Mariposa is good, but it's not as good as some reviews would have you believe. However, since it's the only highend restaurant in Deer Valley, you either love it or get in you car and drive down the mountain to Park City. Basically, there are no surprises on the menu. You've had this food at other restaurants before. Service is a little stuck up, but that's probably because they just waited on a celebrity before you arrived. Oh well. When you've been skiing all day it's hard to complain.

I can't wait for the Mariposa to open again this ski season and I pray that they'll indulge us with a $20.02 menu, or some likewise incentive. The service is savvy and prompt. They'll help you make wine selections. The entrees are always well-balanced (great preparations, portions)- you just wish that the chef would try out some new dishes after so many seasons. The desserts are top-notch- don't miss out on them.
