Editorial Review for Saltair Pavilion – by Renee Lowry
Facts
Innocent tourists insisting on a trip to the Great Salt Lake might consider a concert at Saltair. The original resort (loftily envisioned as "The Coney Island of the West") was built by enterprising Mormon businessmen in 1893, and the Ottoman-style pavilion and amusement park entertained more than a million visitors until it was destroyed by a fire in 1925. Rebuilt in the 1930s and again in 1981, the now fire-safe structure has been converted to a serviceable (if slightly spooky) dance hall and concert venue.
Features
Perched directly on the shores of the lake (30 minutes outside the city), Saltair manages to attract impressive acts, ranging from Morrissey and Tool to Coldplay and Tenacious D. A secondary attraction is the roomy dance floor, which allows persistent slam-dancers to stay safely up front. It also sports an upstairs loitering gallery and refreshment stand. Sadly, Saltair's acoustic design consists of only a few giant speakers (fortified by surly-looking security guards).

Insider Tips
Getting ThereSaltair is located conspicuously off the highway about 30 minutes west of downtown. Head west on I-80 to exit 104 (Saltair Drive).
No SwimmingThink twice before indulging in a post-concert skinny dip. The lake's 25-percent salt content sustains abundant colonies of brine shrimp.

I went to Saltair to see three amazing bands perform. When I arrived I found out I had to pay $5 to park. Well, where else do you park out there so of course I had to pay (please note I already paid for the concert ticket and service charge). I get inside and find out I have to pay an additional $5 to even go upstairs (alcohol was being served up there). It was like their own little club. The building was partitioned off and the wooden rafters made it so the noise blurred together and was unrecognizable. I would not recommend this place for concerts especially if you like the band. It made for a sorry and costly experience.
Pros: Private location
Cons: Parking, drinks, and sound

I went to the Saltair for a concert and the sound was amazing. However, it was very dirty... The concession stand only had two people working in it and it was very unsanitary. They were pretty much throwing handburgers at anyone who walked up to the counter. Also, its a very small place for a concert. VERY SMALL! The drunks above enjoy throwing things at the people down below... NOT COOL. The stage should be up higher so that those of us who are short can see something!! Bathroom stalls were disgusting.
Pros: Sound
Cons: Cleanliness, concessions, paraphanellia everywhere!!!!
