Tips for Youth Care Of Draper

August 18, 2012

I am a survivor of Youth Care of Utah. I was sent to Youth Care on February 18 of 2011 for my severe depression disorder. Escorts took me from my room while I was sleeping and forcibly held me down the whole plane ride to Salt Lake City. At Youth Care, I was greeted by Trina Packard. This lady who held all of my rights, however, was unlicensed and other than that first day, I only saw her on parent 'visits'. Each day at Youth Care was brainwash and abuse. We woke up each morning at the same time and were forced to follow their schedule. No one was allowed to question the program in any way at all, especially because we would lose our basic human rights if we did. A different staff member watched me shower and go to the bathroom every day. Staff could do whatever they wanted, including calling us names and punishing us out of spite. I still remember many of the staff names, and none of them were licensed. Neither was my nurse (Jordan Jacobsen) or most of the therapists and office staff. Many did not even attend college. In Youth Care, a child will become brainwashed into the Mormon lifestyle. They will remain brainwashed until the fear is gone. When in Youth Care, everyone there with me for more than a few months totally believed that the program was working and great. We all believed we would come home and be successful and have positive lives. So why do we all come home and self-destruct? My Youth Care class, despite how strongly we believed we had changed, came back and went back to the old patterns. The difference: most of us now also suffer with PTSD from all of Youth Care's crazy abuse and neglect. Please do not neglect your child. I wake up crying and can't sleep nights in a row because of my real nightmares of this program. I imagine huge men taking me from my bed in the middle of the night constantly. I get scared of having my life controlled by unlicensed, rude, demeaning staff. Do not trust an ed-consultant with YOUR child!!! These programs won't be around much longer because they are finally being exposed. In the meantime, please do not send your child to be neglected at Youth Care. I am an example of all of the emotional abuse of Youth Care. If you are a parent thinking about sending your child to Youth Care or any other Aspen program, please make sure you really know what you are in for. Please email me before making this decision. Sincerely, Ryan Andresen

Excellent Care!. Youthcare saved our daughter and family. The staff is professional yet caring. They truly cared for my daughter. They wanted her to succeed. The staff, therapist and director were always available to me to get an update and offer advice and encouragement. By the end of her stay, I can honestly say that I considered Youthcare, family.
