Tips for Big O Tires

April 29, 2013

There's only one service I do outside of my Lexus dealership and that's the tires... They have much more to offer in the way of tires and they live up to the service I get from Lexus. It's the only tire shop I can say that about.

Highly Recommend. They gave me several options in different price-ranges so I was well informed and understood I had more than 1 choice of a tire. They are always very helpful and I feel like I'm being given honest advice. They don't "push" something on you that you don't need.

Avoid this franchise. I did not have a positive experience at Big O Tires in Draper. I have patronized them in the past ... but no longer.

I brought my car there to change tires and get the inspection. The winter tires were put on and that went without a hitch. The inspection was another story. Initially, I was advised that the front pads were worn, they quoted me $189 + taxes (I eventually had the job done for $139 + taxes) , that the wipers were worn, and that the battery needed to be anchored or tied down. The wiper issue was one that concerned me since I purchased the wipers in early Sept 2011 and had hardley used them; it turns out that the wiper was loose and just needed to be "popped-in-place". I was not impressed by them missing that. The pads quote struck me as "gotch situation ... no that you are here ,,, we will quote you a price because we do not think you will shop the deal." (my impression). I went to a second shop and should them the "REJECTED" paperwork and description of the problem (as described by Big O). They said the pad was fine and to report this to the UT Highway Patrol. I returned to Big O and shared what was shared with me. They then said that they were consistent all the way and that they showed a 0/32 for a brake pad not because the brake pad was 0/32, but because the problem was that the pad was old and getting crumbly. That was a different story. In the interim I purchased a tie down for the battery and did not tie it tight enough; they failed me on that account. e discussed having the highway patrol decide on the pad issue and they called but where advised there was no one to come around. They had my tel and contact information. I did not want to wait for hrs for the remote chance the highway patrol would stop. Anyway, they return the car running and hand me the keys and lef the hood up while the car ran! It is a good thing I notices. I went for a third opinion and decided to have the work done. Two days later I returned to Big O and they have the nerve to say "you should have been here yesterday. the highway patrol came around." Perhaps they could have called knowing I was an unhappy customer. They felt that the batterywas still too loose and REJECTED the car again and said that the batter was loose. I was upset, did they somehow loose the tie down (that was the impression conveyed), it turns out it was too loose still and "flopping around." I left annoyed! Bring your ratchet set to Big O! Before leaving they offered to tighten the battery down for a fee! Unbelievable!! I returned home and tightened the thing myself and returned a day later after showing what I had done. It finally passed. The level of communication and the little things missed eventually added up. Go elsewhere ... I am taking my business elsewhere and recommending that my friends frequest other local businesses for their tires, inspections, and regular car maintenance! No more Big O for me!
